About Lisa

My path into child therapy started in general medicine whilst working for the NHS. Seeing first-hand the effects of mental ill-health on an individual and their family led me to retrain in 2010. Since then I have worked as an outreach team member with Samaritans supporting young people with suicidal tendencies and obtained a degree in psychology at Winchester University.  In the last nine years I have worked both privately and in primary and secondary education schools, working with children diagnosed with a range of complex needs from behavioural, emotional and social difficulties to autism spectrum disorder. After completing my degree I moved into child psychotherapy obtaining a post graduate diploma with distinction in Play Therapy from Leeds Beckett University and I continue to research and participate in courses and workshops that I believe are important and integral to both the child’s and family’s needs for positive change.

My work in schools involves consultation and assessment of children’s mental health but also advising management, teachers and assistants and for the last four years I have been involved in drumming groups in my local area, seeing first-hand the benefits drumming can bring to children with behavioural and emotional difficulties.

For the past three years I have worked closely with Adoption South using both Play Therapy and DDP practices to support adopted children and their families, expanding my knowledge in courses that I believe directly help children suffering from developmental trauma caused by earlier neglect and abuse. I work in the Portsmouth area providing therapeutic interventions, consultations and assessments.
